Lawsuit filed

One of the biggest football name of the Iberian Peninsula is being blamed for dishonesty, of whom simultaneously, with one other (their opponents from that time) are also mentioned in a negative way.

Accused of tax fraud, match fixing and corruption, this Tuesday the Portuguese court has officially filed a lawsuit against Benfica and its former officials (boss and advisor) together with ex directors from Vitoria futebol clube. Happening on the period between 2016 and 2019, the club from Setubal would deliberate lost 2 of its championship games, while in exchange the former Benfica director (Luis Felipe Vieira) has agreed player transfers to financially benefit their rivals and for these businesses has paid 1,3 million euros. For giving / receiving unreasonable advantages and tax deception with criminal activities Benfica is indicted with active corruption, whilst their opponents were charged with a passive one (with the same scheme).

Hence, prosecutors wants Luis Felipe Vieira to stop perform any job in football for 5 years, and his former club to be expelled from all sport tournaments.

Awaiting for the decision

Punished for bad behaviour

Yesterday the European football organization has penalized one Balkan country thus their association had to deliver 34.500 euros. The disciplinary action for Croatia was for the duel that was played last month against Poland at the European version of the Nations league event.

For throwing various objects from the home fans onto the terrain the fine was 15,000 euros together with 8,000 because they ran inside after the final whistle. Additionally, 7,000 was also included that was for reprimands of the players and officials from the team while the financial penalty of 4,500 euros was for the pyrotechnics that was prepared by their own spectators.

Date for draw is known

So far 5 confederations are playing elimination games for the World Cup 2026, while today the last one have announced when the whole layout is going to be familiar and dates of when it will start and end their journey.

At the European zone the group games would have to be played from March until November of 2025, and between 26 and 31 March of the following year are scheduled the play off duels. When this will be completed, 16 teams would travel from this continent to the 2026 final event.

But before we all jump into the future, first the 12 qualifying groups have to familiar. The ceremony of the draw is expected to be on Friday, 13 December in Zurich (Switzerland).
