Lost an official elimination game

On 15 October Libya and Nigeria were supposed to play its group D qualifying match for the Africa Cup of nations 2025/26. But prior of their arrival the visiting players were mistreated at the airport by the local people and after a long wait they decided to return back home.

Therefore, the organizers of the event brought a verdict that this game will never be replayed, Libya automatically looses this duel 3:0, and also its football association have to pay a financial fine of 50,000 dollars (46,223 euros).

Awaiting for the decision

On Tuesday Libya and Nigeria had to entertain each other from qualifiers of the Africa Cup of nations 2025/26, however prior to that, this duel was cancelled because of an unusual incident.

This game got postponed because the visitors have complained of poor treatment and reception of its players and staff from locals that was stuck at Baninah airport for more than 12 hours without any food, communications, and transport for someone to collect and took them to the hotel. Angrily and exhausted the footballers have decided to return back, although they were aware that the game might be lost. Immediately the Disciplinary committee of the African football organization is reviewing the whole case, and the final outcome of who is to blame and who is not will be announced in Ethiopia when the Executive committee meeting is scheduled for 22 October.

New qualifying cycle is starting

For the first time teams from all 6 confederations are engaging in various games where most of them are qualifiers mainly for 4 final tournaments.

In July 48 teams were equally divided into 12 groups for the main elimination process of the next edition for the Africa Cup of nations. We are searching for 23 participants and those will come when the top 2 teams from 11 groups plus 1 (the best) from group B are going to book their tickets to the finals in Morocco at December 2025 / January 2026.

The qualifying period will end this November, but for now everything begins with 48 matches that are scheduled to be held in seven days and nights. Because it is extremely difficult to find the whole and exact layout, every kick off below together with date have to be taken with reserve.

Groups have been formed

Forty eight teams that was divided in 12 groups of 4 have learned their fate of who is meeting who from the major elimination stages of the Africa Cup of nations 2025 competition. The draw that separated them was conducted on 04 July in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Now each one of them has to play twice this September, October and November only to see if they can be placed in the first 2 positions that are direct ones for the final event. Here is how everything turned out to be:

Revealed date when elimination groups will be formed

Next year the African Cup of nations will take place in Morocco which is going to be staged for the thirty fifth time. But to know who are the best 24 teams of the continent plenty of qualifying duels have to be played. And because of that the date is now familiar of when everything would be established.

On 12 June it was announced that the 48 teams would know their fate of who is going where at 04 July. The draw is going to take place at one of the Supersport channel studios in Johannesburg, South Africa. Everything would begin at 14.30 local time where 12 groups will appear with an equal amount of teams in them.
