Fifty six years old rule that goes into history

On the last Thursday of June the European football organization has made one change concerning its all club tournaments (for men, women and youth categories) from next season (2021-22).
Beginning with the first qualifying round and onwards, clubs can no longer depend on the away goals norm which so far was counted as double. If the results (over two matches) are equal in regular time additional 30 minutes are going to be played and penalty shootouts (if necessary).
This rule was first introduced at 1965-66 season.

Playing the same elimination phase

As the title is saying from next weekend, the two continental championships that are currently playing in the world will meet with the identical stage for the first time concerning the knockouts.

For the European competition the elimination matches of last 16 stage are over with the first part, while the second one is starting in the following two nights. The second knockout phase will start towards beginning of next weekend, and the complete schedule is yet to be familiar. Eight pairs are going to appear for the last time with two kickoffs, because from semi-final (knockout number three) there will be only one.

Big help on referees starting with third elimination round

Last week two completely different major news has occurred concerning the same competition: qualifying games for the World Cup that next year will be staged in Qatar.

Out of the six, the Asian confederation on 17 June has announced that this continent is going to be the first to use video assistant referee system on its matches. Hence, the little / big monitors from above will be installed on every stadia and are going to detect any foul that will happen together with incidents among players beginning from the third elimination stage (who is ready to kick off in September) and onwards.

Two days later the world football organization has managed (in these conditions) to issue a punishment for Mexico ordering them to play their next two home duels behind close doors. Staging it with or without spectators, really does not have a point knowing that nearly all teams in these qualifiers are playing on empty arenas (due to the well known health situation). On top of that, the association had to deliver 60.000 Swiss francs (54.838 euros) because Mexican fans yelled homophobic chants at the Olympic elimination games back in March. Because of this behavior no one will be present in the third round of North, Central America and Caribbean qualifiers for duels against: Jamaica on 02 September, and 07 October with Canada.

It has been an exciting 17 days and night of World Cup qualifying games. But, as always, everything has to end, thus North, Central America and Caribbean continent are going to close with its plays for this month.

Six teams are left competing onto the second qualifying round, however there will be space for only half of them for the third and last one.
