As soon as the three league winners have won their groups, they immediately knew where to travel for the final round. This week part number one has completed for the North, Central America and Caribbean version of the Nations league tournament, and thus the focus will now be primarily directed towards the play-off with the final four matches that are going to kick off this summer.

On 20 March the organizer of the event has awarded Las Vegas to welcome the group A champions: Mexico, Panama and Canada together with the host United States of America. Hence, all four matches are going to be played on Allegiant arena beginning at 15 June with the semi-finals, while three nights later everything would be decided (with the classification duel and the big final). Entry papers for the competition were released on sale from this Monday.

Format changed for advancing into next round

The expanded World Cup in 2026 will be with 48 teams and from last Thursday it was confirmed how they will be divided. In the Rwandan capital Kigali it was decided that in the group stage 12 of them would be formed with four teams each. At the first knockout round (last 32) the first two teams are guaranteed a place together with eight best that occupied third position. Up until the final (plus the classification pair for third-fourth spot) each team is going to play eight games instead of current seven. Competition will last for 39 nights (breaks included) or from 11 June as far as 19 July.

Forty new matches are going to appear as well because from 64 this number will rise up to 104 in total (for the whole event). With more duels played, of course, that there would be also an additional income for the world football organization (mainly coming from sold tickets).

Candidates for awards revealed

Three days ago the North, Central America and Caribbean confederation has announced the candidates for best player of 2022. Captains and coaches of every 41 member association together with journalists from this region will choose from six names that are nominated in both male and female section. Each fan is encouraged to participate by giving voice to the favourite footballer through their website where the complete list is shown. Voting process is going to end on 13 April.

Candidates were selected based on statistical performance and football technical experts.

Ahead of us, and for the first time in 2023 are elimination duels on a team level which are scheduled to be staged in three confederations around the world, so that their main events would be organized next year (with exception to one). While for one of them one would be a completely new cycle, the other two are basically familiar. Below you can find the layouts for each of the three.
