Highest paid coaches

Last Wednesday, when Jose Mourinho has agreed to train Tottenham, the public learned how much the Portuguese will be paid on a yearly basis. The 56-year-old is going to receive 17.5 million euros, which makes him second most payable coach in the world.
Before him is only the Spanish manager Pep Guardiola, who at Manchester city (England) earns 23 million euros per season. Atletico Madrid (Spain) pays Diego Simeone 15 million euros for the third place, followed by Rafael Benitez which is at the Chinese club Dalian Yifang who is receiving 13 million euros. Position number five is shared by two trainers: Fabio Cannavaro at Guangzhou evergrande (team from People's Republic of China) and Zinedine Zidane in Real Madrid (club from Spain) both have the same financial weight - 11.5 million euros.

Loss of a great manager

Yesterday at 63 years of age has passed away Peter Tim Dirk Verbeek (mostly known as Pim Verbeek).
His entire playing career was at Sparta Rotterdam, however after a terrible knee injury was forced to retire at the age of 25. From the coaching business have led many of clubs and international teams, where he mostly worked on the Asian continent. One of the best success was training Oman at the Asian Cup championship in the beginning of 2019 for the first time. The respected Dutch manager again had to step down from his post where, unfortunately, cancer took away his life.

Last winner completes the line-up

Champion number six (from the Asian Champions league) and Asian representative number two at the Club World Cup is Al-Hilal, who today was again a better team from Urawa red diamonds in their Saitama stadium. With this duel all teams are now known that will participate at the last official tournament (Club World Cup) in Qatar which starts in less than three weeks time.
The Saudi Arabian team is going to be the third debutant at the event, and will start from the second round where they are going to play against the African champions (Esperance de Tunis).

24 November 2019

Fifth champion that will travel to Asia

At a memorable first ever match in a single final of the CONMEBOL region, the Copa Libertadores tournament have a new champion. With practically no real play in the whole match, Flamengo looked like they were going to loose against the defending champions River Plate. An equalizing goal was scored at the eighty-ninth minute, and in stoppage time added another, so that the Brazilian club lifted the trophy for the second time in the competition.
It means that the fresh South American champion is going to debut next month at the Club World Cup in Qatar. The penultimate representative in the event is going to appear for the first time in the semi-final.

Connection of two tournaments leads to main event

It is widely known that 20 teams qualified directly to the European championship, thus only four are missing. And this quartet is going to come from the Nations league event. Basically, the finals from the four leagues will pose as play-off matches for the main tournament in the continent that begins next summer. Yesterday the European football organization has made the draw for 12 additional matches, which starts with semi-final duels and ends up with last games (it is going to be a single game in a knockout system) who are all going to be played in the following dates:

26 March 2020:

PATH A:
Iceland - Romania.
Bulgaria - Hungary. Whoever wins this duel is going to host the final.

PATH B:
Bosnia and Herzegovina - Northern Ireland. Whoever wins this match is going to host the final.
Slovakia - Republic of Ireland.

PATH C:
Scotland - Israel.
Norway - Serbia. Whoever wins this game is going to host the final.

PATH D:
Georgia - Belarus. Whoever wins this duel is going to host the final.
North Macedonia - Kosovo.

All four finals are scheduled on 31 March 2020.
Every pair has to start at 20.45 CET, however this depends on the time zones within the confederation.

23 November 2019

National Super Cup on foreign soil

For second consecutive time the Spanish Super Cup is going to be played outside its borders. After Africa, next year the new format will happen in Asia for the next three seasons. Saudi Arabia is going to host the first ever final-four event of the competition, thus the teams who will travel to the Arabian Peninsula are: the defending champions (Barcelona), Cup winners (Valencia), club that finished second at the local championship of 2018-19 season (Atletico Madrid) plus the third team (Real Madrid).
According to the local sports daily newspaper (As) the host country have to pay 30 million euros, while half of that money will split this quartet. Two million euros are going to receive the champions of the tournament, 1.4 million will belong to the losing finalist, whilst the remaining two teams are going to be awarded with a million euros from the prize fund. Without the third-fourth match classification, the dates for the three duels are: 08 and 09 January 2020 with the semi-finals, and the big final is going to be on 12 January 2020.
Until past Monday, when it was revealed where the competition will be staged, the hospitality country has been kept in secrecy until the last minute due to the pressure of Amnesty international organization which accuses Saudi Arabia of violating human rights, especially women. To ease a little bit of that pressure, a representative promised that females will be allowed to enter into the stadiums in a previous agreement with the Spanish football federation. Other competing candidate to bring the best four clubs was Qatar.
