It looks like the saga between Chile and Ecuador is finally over, well... with minor consequences. The first country has accused the second of fielding an ineligible player throughout the elimination games of the World Cup 2022, and thus wanted to replace them at the finals which starts from this weekend.
Hence the last word has said the Court of arbitration for sport 10 days ago confirming that defender Byron Castillo had a right to play, but its football federation was sanctioned for the "falsified" passport. Also they have to pay a fine of 100.000 Swiss francs (101.016 euros), and lastly Ecuador will have to start with minus three points or would commence as tenth nation in the qualifiers for the World Cup 2026 event.
