Like the Champions, all 156 clubs has to receive UEFA licence in order to participate in the event. Some of the clubs from various states, (who were second, third...in their respective leagues), have failed to receive the clearance from UEFA so the followers were given a chance. Here also applies the rule that every teams can start from various rounds based on coefficient from past years. For the first time Europa league does not have a defender of the trophy as this year's winner (Sevilla) is promoted to Champions league.
20 June is also determined as a date for the two qualifying draws. The first one will start on 30 June and most games will be played on its regular day - Thursday, except in those cases where two teams share a stadium (alternatives are Tuesday and Wednesday). The 2016/17 final will be played on Wednesday, 24.05.2017.
