Tournament statistics

World Cup qualifiers for the Oceania region continued with the second round from 28 May - 11 June in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
Eight nations were divided into two groups. In the group stage in every match there was a goal scored or in total 44. From those, 23 were scored in the first 45 minutes, while in the second half goalkeepers received 21 goals. Referees gave 6 penalties and issued 3 red cards, from which 2 of them were direct. At the semi finals stages 4 teams delivered 4 more goals - 1 in the first with 3 scored in the second half. The only scoreless game was the final where it was decided by penalties.
Top 3 nations that finished in group A - Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Tahiti and group B - New Zealand, Solomon Islands, Fiji qualified for Oceania's third round which will be played from March until October 2017.
Together with World Cup qualifiers this mini-tournament was also the OFC Nations Cup. Penalty shoot out winner New Zealand gained the right to represent the region in the Confederations Cup event which will take place next June in Russia, one year prior to the World Cup finals.
