Astra Giurgiu coach Marius Sumudica is banned for six months for betting on some international and national football games in Romania. He can appeal the suspension. Romanian FA said in a statement that the 'unfortunate' coach made payments on tickets from 500 to 900 euros, which is why, in addition to suspension and fined with 100.000 lei (22.384 euros). Club's chairman Petre Buduru said to local media that he will try to keep Sumudica as coach, but as he will appeal the ban. Currently Astra is in first place, three points ahead of Dinamo Bucharest.
In Romania, football players, coaches and officials are forbidden to bet but the public thinks that it is widespread in the country.
