Spain's largest stadium is going to grow

From 45 worldwide architectural companies, 8 were chosen as finalists. At the end, Japanese architects Nikken Sekkei and Catalan partners Pascual i Ausio Arquitectes have won the tender. The joint Japanese-Catalan bid has been selected for planned renovation of the Camp Nou stadium. In 2014 Barcelona's Board members approved and accept a 600 million euros project, from current 99.354 seat stadium to be extended to 105.000 with the addition of extra corporate hospitality facilities. 'The Nikken Sekkei + Pascual i Ausio Arquitectes proposal stands out for being open, elegant, serene, timeless, Mediterranean and democratic', said in a statement.
The club is saying that the work of the new stadium is scheduled to start in the 2017/18 season while the new Camp Nou will re-open during the 2021/22 season.
