DFB stays without general secretary

German FA (DFB) general secretary Helmut Sandrock resigned from his post on Friday. That happened just one week before the release of the successful Germany's bid hosting the 2006 World Cup with a controversial payment to FIFA officials. He supposed to be in Zurich today, where FIFA is electing a new president, but because of 'health reasons' he withdrew earlier from the trip. After quitting his job DFB in a statement said that Sandrock 'resigned so that the federation could make a fresh start and for the good of football DFB needs to make a completely new start, even with personnel'. Top DFB officials came under fire for suspicious payment of 6.7 million euros to FIFA and are accused of buying votes for the 2006 World Cup. This payment also has led some doubts about the tax evasion scam in Germany. Acting like FIFA president at the time, Sepp Blatter is 'still wondering about the sum and how it can be paid without his knowing'.
Sandrock became general secretary in March 2011, when Wolfgang Niersbach moved up to become president.
