Shock news from CAF

On Friday in Kigali, Rwanda at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) meeting decides to back sheikh Salman for the FIFA presidential race. The announcement was made by CAF vice presidents Suketu Patel and Almamy Kabele Camara at a news conference following the executive committee meeting. With 54 voting nations, Africa's choice may be crucial in the ballot on 26 February in Zurich.
This news came as a big surprise as CAF did not support their 'own man', South African businessman Tokyo Sexwale. The only African candidate in the race nevertheless remains 'great ally of CAF'. After this shock news to him and the confidence of staying in, Sexwale's spokesman said it was not entirely clear whether it will be premature to withdraw from the election race.
After the CAF meeting, the next key date for the candidates is 11 February when they will give presentations to the CONCACAF confederation at a meeting in Miami. CONCACAF has 35 member associations with votes in the FIFA election, from which 7 are already secured and determined for Gianni Infantino.
