After the precedent on Tuesday, where Kosovo is admitted to UEFA, the European football organization may receive new application for membership. Crimea Football Union (CFU) wants to become fifty-sixth member after Kosovo's unlawful acceptance earlier in the week.
In an interview for the Russian TASS agency, CFU president Yury Vetokha among other things said: ' I personally do not see how our [Kosovo and Crimea] situations differ. It [Kosovo] is also an unrecognized republic. [FIFA president] Gianni Infantino met with [Russian sports minister] Vitaly Mutko and they also discussed the issue of integrating Crimea into the world football - step by step. We do understand that it will not happen quickly, but we have fulfilled all of the set requirements.'
CFU is having a special status within UEFA.
