With 28 votes for, 24 against and two invalid papers Kosovo has entered UEFA's family. Today in Budapest at the organizational congress, the European football body has admitted the southeastern Serbian territory as a fifty-fifth member.
Prior to the voting, Kosovo wanted to amend the statute which provides the member states may be only the countries whose independence is recognized by United Nation (UN) by inserting the phrase 'the majority of international community in Europe'. That proposal was three votes short because it has to have two-thirds of majority. That is how UEFA has made an serious precedent of admitting Kosovo FA into a full member without being recognized country by the UN first. The acceptance means that the new member can play official European matches and its clubs participate in the European cup competitions. After UEFA, FIFA is now next stop for Kosovo and its 'fate' will be determined 13 May in Mexico City. If are allowed in the worlds football organization as well, then Kosovo might play European qualification matches for the 2018 World Cup this fall.
However this whole case might end up in the highest sporting ruling court in Lausanne as Serbian FA will lodge a complaint in the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
