Former Zenit St. Petersburg player convicted

Vladimir Dolgopolov has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of beating his wife to death. Federal investigative committee said that Dolgopolov was found guilty of having caused grave breaches to his wife, from which later she died. The committee noted that the former football player attacked his wife during a family brawl in an apartment in St. Petersburg. He will serve his sentence in a maximum security prison.
The Russian footballer has been played for Zenit St. Petersburg in the 80s and 90s, and with that club won Soviet league title. He also played for Dynamo Moscow.
